"Arranged Ikebana Arranging in Space"
Presented by: Nancy Gettys, Ichiyo School
These arrangements are different from a raised container. These arrangement focus on the space under the arrangement and around the arrangement. This space is known as Ma. Ma means empty, spatial void.
The space under the arrangement and around are important. It is part of the Ikebanist inspiration along with the materials and container.
There are several ways to show space in an arrangement. Using an iron tripod or a lucite box, suspending an arrangement from a frame such as a hanakazari, using a glass box or container underneath the arrangement, etc. The idea is to show space underneath the arrangement.
Continue further below demo photos to see the arrangements created by workshop participants!
