Asheville North Carolina
Chapter #74
“Summer Flower Materials from the Ohara School of Ikebana”
Presented by: Diane Harker of the Ohara School
The Ohara School focuses on expressing the beauty of natural scenery. Its basic philosophy is to observe nature well and emphasize the seasonal qualities, growth process, and the beauty of the natural environments.
Diane is currently a 3rd Degree Master in the Ohara School. All of the materials used in the three demonstrations were from Diane’s own yard.
Diane created three different arrangements - Bunjin-Heika using a tall vase with a fitted base, a Rimpa with a focus on June flowers, and a Middle View Landscape which shows Far View, Middle View and Near View. This was a wonderful demonstration of how Ohara uses summer flower materials.
