"Using Japanese Things in Western Homes"

ZOOM Presentation

Presented by: Laura Felt and Dede Walton - Ikenobo School

Laura lived in Japan in the eighties and has gone back to visit nearly every year since she returned to the US. She has collected many Japanese items, including furniture, textiles, and pottery since leaving Japan and her numerous return trips. Dede has accompanied Laura on several trips. During these trips Laura and Dede have spent many hours at shrine markets in Kyoto and Tokyo. This program highlighted how they have adapted Japanese items into their homes here in the US.

In the video presentation filmed in Laura’s home, they shared some fashion tips with haori, kimono and shibori fabric.  A number of items with a specific Japanese use are adapted to find another equally useful function with our Western lifestyle.

In the PowerPoint Laura and Dede shared more specific ideas for adapting items to our lifestyle.  We were treated to a number of very lovely table settings for different types of dining experiences and many other interesting items.
