Asheville, North Carolina
Chapter #74
On Saturday, September 8th, Norma Bradley and Nancy Gettys of the Ichiyo School of Ikebana used their training and talent to create beautiful Ichiyo arrangements. Participants received a brief history of Ikebana and how Norma and Nancy developed their personal interest in this Japanese tradition. Thanks for representing our Asheville Chapter and advancing an awareness and appreciation for Ikebana in Western North Carolina.
The design and creation of four arrangements captivated a well-attended audience. Six additional arrangements were prepared ahead of time and on display. Katherine Carter, Reems Creek’s landscape designer, was present and shared her knowledge of particular plants during the demonstration.
The art of ikebana is to listen to the spirit of flowers and plants. It is how to make the voice or sentiment of the flower a visual combination with your feelings. Ikebana allows the heart of the arranger to touch the heart of the viewer, and this brings peace and tranquality. I hope that you will enjoy ikebana.
